Make SRT and VTT subtitle files from any video
To make an SRT or VTT file from a video, open it in Chrome with Video Transcriber, get the transcript (the video’s captions, or an AI transcript when there are none) and choose Save as subtitles (.srt) or (.vtt) in the ⋮ menu. Every subtitle is timed to its line of the transcript.

Short, timed subtitles
Long lines are split at word boundaries into subtitles of at most two lines that never overlap.

Subtitle file questions
Can I get an SRT file from a YouTube video?
Yes. Once the transcript is in the panel (the video’s captions or an AI transcript), choose Save as subtitles (.srt) in the ⋮ menu. The file is made from the transcript text; Video Transcriber never saves the video.
What’s the difference between SRT and VTT?
Both are plain text files with times. SRT is the classic format most video editors and players open; VTT (WebVTT) is the format of web video players. Video Transcriber saves either.
Can a subtitle file have two languages?
Yes. Translate the transcript, choose Both languages, then save: every subtitle has a line of the original and a line of the translation.
Can I edit the file?
Yes. It is plain text, so any text or subtitle editor opens it, for example to fix a name before you use it.
Does it burn subtitles into the video?
No. Video Transcriber makes subtitle files and can show subtitles over the video in Chrome, but it doesn’t edit or export video.
