Transcribe video and audio files to text
To transcribe a video or audio file, click the Video Transcriber icon in Chrome, choose Transcribe a file and drop the file on the My files page. The file stays on your computer: only its compressed speech audio and the file name are sent for an AI transcript with timestamps.

How to transcribe a file
Open My files
Click the Video Transcriber icon in Chrome’s toolbar and choose Transcribe a file, or press Alt+Shift+F.
Drop the file
Or choose it from your computer. The audio is read in your browser, even from a large video, usually in a few minutes. Keep the tab open.
Use the text
Watch the file next to its transcript and click a time to jump. Search, summarize, translate, copy, or save it as TXT, SRT or VTT.
Your file stays with you
Never uploaded
Only compressed speech audio and the file name go through our server to Google Gemini and DeepInfra; our server stores none of it.
Long recordings
Up to 2 hours of AI transcription a day per account. A longer file is done in parts: what is transcribed stays saved, and Continue does the rest the next day.
History in your browser
Every transcript stays in My files, only in this browser. Set auto-delete to 30 or 90 days if you like.
The same tools
Summary, Ask the video, Translate, Remove filler words and every export work on a file’s transcript too.

File transcription questions
Which file formats are supported?
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, AAC and TS. For other formats, such as AVI or WMV, save the file as MP4 or MP3 with any converter first.
Is my file uploaded or stored?
No. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded. Only compressed speech audio and the file name go through our server to the AI, which turns them into text; our server doesn’t store them, and the transcript is saved only in your browser (Privacy Policy).
How long can a file be?
AI transcription covers up to 2 hours of audio per account a day, and at most 4 hours per run. A longer file is done in parts: what is transcribed stays saved, and Continue does the rest the next day.
Can I transcribe a meeting or call recording?
Yes, once it is saved as a file in a supported format, such as an MP4 or M4A recording of a webinar, a meeting or a call. Video Transcriber doesn’t join live meetings.
Is it free?
Yes, within a fair daily limit of 2 hours of AI transcription per account. No sign-up is needed.
